Appeals Court Rules Tariffs to Stay For Now 04/29/2025

An appeals court has just ruled that President Donald Trump can continue to collect import taxes. This ruling comes not even 24 hours after a trade court ruled Trump tariffs to be illegal.

The federal appeals court approved a bid from the Trump administration which temporarily suspends the trade courts order. The trade court ruled that President Trump overstepped his power by imposing the sweeping tariffs.

The Trump administration was expectedly upset stating that this is an “example of judicial overreach”.

A group of states and small businesses had challenged these tariffs, which is a major ideology of Trump’s economic and international agendas.

In the Trump administration’s appeal they stated that “the decision of the trade court improperly second guessed the president” and sought to “unravel months of hard-fought trade negotiations.
